A focus on digital sovereignty in 2026
Hello Everyone! As we continue to define Kata Containers as the default way to secure containers, a natural scenario that we want to prioritize this year is how Kata enables digital sovereignty. This growing trend around the globe gives us a prime opportunity to further elevate Kata’s profile and educate the tech industry more about how security and fine grained data control go hand in hand with Kata. As a community, we hope to grow awareness by collaborating on a targeted effort to promote understanding of the ways in which Kata Containers and other OpenInfra technologies play into digital sovereignty. To kick off this effort we plan to host a meeting on January 20th at 7:00 UTC. This first meeting will focus on setting the stage and defining goals for the year (examples could include crafting concrete deliverables, a gathering of case studies, enumeration of new features that could grow the digital sovereignty use case, etc). If you'd like to be included in the calendar block, simply reply directly to this email and I will add you! Please join us! -Kendall
Hello Everyone! As promised, here is the recording for those that were not able to attend the kickoff call: https://zoom.us/rec/share/QLyhngha_pgXEc2736oPEdDGWz_UI8IZLbHbJGyDWLv7nt4esc... And here are the accompanying notes: https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/Digital-Sovereignty-WG We will continue to make use of the etherpad going forward for agenda planning for meetings, etc. If you do watch the recording, please add your name to the attendees list in the etherpad with a note that you watched the recording. Everyone is also encouraged to add to the notes and content in the etherpad. The goal is to capture as much participation as possible. Now, while there wasn't much in the way of immediate todo's, the one request that I have is that folks fill out this poll so that we can select a meeting time <https://beta.framadate.org/polls/5f355daf8e4329e1cd52> for the next one (during the first week of February). Responses to this poll are allowed until January 28th. Additionally, I wanted to see if the Kata community was interested in pursuing a separate set of meetings to focus solely on Kata and how it plays into digital sovereignty. Obviously there is some overlap with OpenStack, being both a part of OpenInfra's response to digital sovereignty, but it might be better to work on things in parallel rather than trying to force it all into a single meeting? Open to thoughts! I will also be dropping all of this into slack to capture thoughts there as well.
