Confidential Containers: Naming
Hey Everyone, Naming is hard, we all know it. And the time has come to pick a name for our future confidential containers GitHub repo/organization. With other usual suspects, we’ve come up with a list of names for that project. This is copied from the confidential containers meeting document[1]: • Concontainer(s) • Conficon • Confibox • Confidcon • con-con • Con-box • Qonfid • Confidential-containers • Blackbox • Blackhole • Skelduz Containers • Janjira Containers • Serrana Containers • Nesta Containers • Knox Containers In order to choose one name, I’m going to create a poll and let everyone vote in a few days. But before doing so I’d like to check if there are more proposals. So if you can think of any other name, please add it to [1]. Be creative :-) Cheer, Samuel. The Linux kernel is starting to use 'Coco' as an abbreviation for Confidential Computing. It's short and easy. ( 'cocon' is too close to cocoon that already exists. 'coconut' is already taken on github. ) Dave

Coco was actually our first pick however if you look at github you will see that Coco and anything that starts with Coco is taken :-). If anyone has an idea how to solve that then we can add some coco variant to the list as well. Thanks.

Good call…Unfortunately, coco, coko, koco and kcoco are all already reserved on GitHub.
not sure if this would make sense but adding some fuzziness might solve one issue: c0-c0 is available on github. However its still confusing 0/o, even with the dash it seems a bit far fetched... cheers, -T

Why not just go ahead for the simple "https://github.com/confidential-containers"? People won't have to wonder about how it's spelled or what was that thing related to confidential-containers that happened to have a different name. Best Regards, -- Fabiano Fidêncio
Hi All Silly question, Why a new organization is needed? All these sub-projects/crates/libs will end up in the same place (kata repo) We already did something similar in the past with virtcontainers and it was a waste of time and resources! https://github.com/containers/virtcontainers https://github.com/kata-containers/kata-containers/tree/main/src/runtime/vir... remember?? -- Julio On Tue, 2021-09-14 at 15:08 +0200, Fabiano Fidêncio wrote:

Best Regards,
Maybe confidential-containers is not a sub-project of kata, instead is positioned as a new project making use of Kata? There will be more components in addition to current kata container components, such as cc-shim, aa agent, image service etc.

+1. That's one of my proposals in the Google doc. The question is: what if we end up needing a special command-line tool? For example, I proposed kircc (recursive acronym for "kircc is really confidential containers").
People won't have to wonder about how it's spelled or what was that thing related to confidential-containers that happened to have a different name.
