Folks,
Qemu 4 was released this week, is there a plan to start using this new version in kata containers?
In the meantime, I have created a new branch in kata-container/qemu [1] to test this new version + kata patches.
Only two patches were applied: 1. 9p optimizations. 2. vm-templating patch.
Thanks
- Julio

Hi Julio,
I think is sane to update to qemu 4 to keep parity with NEMU and simplify our testing with testing.
We have to check how it works and what needs update:
-CI Salvador already has PR to move to 3.0 that is looking to show any issue in the CI.
-Packages I did a test to build qemu 4.0 with current scripts and most of errors are just mismatch of files that we list on the spec file. I sent PR to fix this
The only blocker is Red Hat
Stefan: I see that qemu build for rhel fails with: `glib-2.40 gthread-2.0 is required to compile QEMU` are you able to build qemu 4.0 with your rhel systems?
Carlos

Can you share more detail on your RHEL system (which release?, CI logs?)?
I have tested that QEMU 4.0 compiles on RHEL 7.6. RHEL 7.6 ships glib2-devel-2.56.1-2.el7.x86_64 so the error message you have seen should not occur on this distro release.
Stefan
One more thing
I think is better to take the patches to packaging instead of maintain the fork of qemu.
Can I ask you to send the patches that we have to packaging as we do with the kernel?
