The Kata Containers team is very happy to announce the release of Kata 1.0.0! We’ve been very busy since announcing the project in December, and the resulting project provides a set repositories that combined create an OCI compatible runtime that provides the best of Virtual Machines and Containers. See the full release notes: https://github.com/kata-containers/runtime/releases/tag/1.0.0 Installation: https://github.com/kata-containers/documentation/tree/master/install For prior users of runv and Clear Containers, please see the upgrade recommendations: https://github.com/kata-containers/documentation/blob/master/Upgrading.md To learn more about the design of Kata Containers, please see the architectural overview: https://github.com/kata-containers/documentation/blob/master/architecture.md Thanks to everyone on the team, and looking forward to more contributors and starting preparation of the next release, which will include more exciting features for the Kata project. Cheers, Kata Containers team.
Thanks Eric, thanks all the contributors, and thanks working committee as well! Tomorrow (maybe I should say today) there will be a whole day Kata Containers sessions in Vancouver summit. Welcome to the sessions! Cheers On Tue, May 22, 2018 12:00 AM, Ernst, Eric eric.ernst@intel.com wrote: The Kata Containers team is very happy to announce the release of Kata 1.0.0! We went from 2 separate OCI runtimes living in different projects, following different development processes, and implementing different architectures, to a converged and unified architecture in roughly 6 months. This is quite an achievement and shows how constructive and open collaboration can do wonders. Many thanks to all contributors for the hard work! Cheers, Samuel. Congratulations to everyone on this release! This is a huge milestone not only technically, but for us as an open source community. Since December, you all have come together and worked across companies, across time zones, and with people you’d never met before, and made a new project happen. Thank you to everyone who contributed, whether that was in commits, reviews, or community organizing, and for all the late nights and early mornings that went into Kata 1.0. If you’re at the OpenStack Summit today, we’ll be having a thank you toast to the Kata contributors at 4:10 in room 217. Every Kata supporter—1.0 contributor or not—is welcome to join. Congrats and Kata on! Anne Bertucio OpenStack Foundation anne@openstack.org | irc: annabelleB

Congrats to everyone! Awesome to see this milestone. If you can’t join the toast today, there’s another chance at DockerCon: https://katacontainers_dockercon2018.eventbrite.com Anne talked about everything that happened since December, and in honor of the launch I thought I’d share an archived photo from launch night in Austin! Thanks so much to everyone, and again, great work on getting through the hard work of 1.0! Jonathan
