Hey Kata folk,
The 1.7.0 release of Kata Containers is now available. The 1.7.0 releasehttps://github.com/kata-containers/runtime/releases/tag/1.7.0 of Kata Containers includes a few optimization fixes, updated Firecracker support, as well as an early experimental preview of virtio-fs.
* Improved the implementation of k8s empty-dir(ephemeral volumes) based on host directories by creating these inside the VM itself. If the VM is using device mapper for container storage, the containers will benefit from the better performance of device mapper for host emptyDir. * Experimental virtio-fs support: virtio-fs is a shared file system that lets virtual machines access a directory tree on the host. In Kata Containers, virtio-fs can be used to share container volumes, secrets, config-maps, configuration files (hostname, hosts, resolv.conf) and the container rootfs on the host with the guest. virtio-fs provides significant performance and POSIX compliance improvements compared to 9pfs. Enabling of virtio-fs requires changes in the guest kernel as well as the VMM. For Kata Containers, experimental virtio-fs support is enabled through the NEMU VMMhttps://github.com/intel/nemu. See the Kata Containers with virtio-fshttps://github.com/kata-containers/documentation/blob/master/how-to/how-to-use-virtio-fs-with-kata.md document for details on how to get an initial look at virtio-fs support. * Kata now supports the latest Firecracker VMM, version 0.16 * Initial persist API changes have been added, providing an initial baseline for future hot-upgrade support
