[oci] Kata representation at OCI
Hi folks, As you probably know, Kata Containers is a voting member on the Trademark Board for OCI, so one of our team members needs to attend the meetings (every other month or so). In particular, we track their future certification for runtimes and the conformance testing efforts, as we need to make sure Kata is a good match for them. Furthermore, OCI runs bi-weekly dev meetings around the OCI spec itself, something that is good for us to keep tabs on. Anne used to track those on behalf of the Kata Containers community, but won't be able to continue going forward. The OSF could find a staff member to cover that activity if necessary, but it would be great if we had someone else in our community, more plugged into that line of work, interested in tracking the OCI relationship and represent Kata Containers at those meetings. Please reply to this thread ASAP if you are interested! The final decision shall be made by the Architecture Committee so that the chosen person ends up officially representing Kata. Cheers, -- Thierry Carrez (ttx)
Hi Thierry, I agree we should have someone in. I am interested in it though the time of the bi-weekly meetingis very unfriendly for me (5am, and will be a bit better next month due to the daylight time stopped). Could we have more than one person attend the meeting? On the dev side it's a public meeting, so anyone can attend. On the Trademark Board side it's a private meeting by invitation, so I suspect we need to come up with a single name... -- Thierry Carrez (ttx)
Hi Thierry - could you provide more specifics about the knowledge required to properly represent Kata in these OCI meetings? (e.g., is it a technical role or could someone with a functional understanding of Kata - non developer - be effective in this role?) I’m happy to help, though Xu’s input/expertise is appreciated as well.

Thanks for your interest, all... I just realized that it is the OpenStack Foundation that technically is the OCI member, rather than "Kata containers", so the Trademark Board seat might have to continue to be filled by an OSF staff member. The OCI dev meeting though is an open meeting, so anyone could join. Let me clarify what our obligations are and come back to y'all. -- Thierry
Got it, thanks Thierry On Tue, Oct 23, 2018, 20:46 Thierry Carrez <thierry@openstack.org> wrote:

OK, after reading the paperwork, it appears that indeed the seat is an "OpenStack Foundation" seat, with the goal to represent the interests of all of our projects (Kata Containers, but also other projects like the LOCI OpenStack containers distribution) on the OCI trademark board. The seat will therefore be held by our OSF staff member expert in all things container / trademark / interoperability: Chris Hoge (chris@openstack.org). My apologies again for the aborted volunteer call. That said, I strongly encourage Xu, Eric and Margaret (and anyone else interested in OCI) to engage directly with Chris on OCI matters so that he can channel your concerns effectively at the OCI trademark board. As far as the OCI biweekly (public) development meetings are concerned, I suspect Chris will attend those but anyone else is welcome to attend to represent the Kata Containers viewpoint on future OCI spec development. Hi everyone, I’ve been peripherally engaged with Kata since the launch, mostly in helping out at community events. With Anne’s departure, this particular part of the Kata community fits in fairly well with my own experiences at the OpenStack Foundation. One of my first tasks here was to launch and administer a trademark and interoperability program for the OpenStack Project. It’s been fantastic watching the Kata community grow, and I’m excited to engage the OCI and advocate for Kata. Thanks, Chris Hoge OpenStack Foundation chris@openstack.org | irc/twitter: hogepodge
